The council approved the reinspection charge during the regular meeting after staff from the Building Department explained that one initial inspection and one free reinspection are included with a permit. Maria, a building department staff member, said the fee would apply only when an inspector must return after those two inspections. "You call for an inspection ... the first inspection is included with your permit. They'll come back out for free the first time ... Third time out, you can be charged," Maria said during the discussion.
Why it matters: Council members said the fee is intended to reduce repeated noncompliant work that requires staff time and travel. Mayor (name not specified) said reinspect fees are a standard practice among cities and counties. The council approved the measure by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the meeting minutes.
The council also approved an $850 payment from the Chamber of Commerce toward Oregon Trail Days permit fees and agreed to waive any additional city fees above that amount. Cheryl Pierce, president of the Tenino Area Chamber of Commerce, told the council the Chamber would pay $850 to help cover the event's costs and asked the city to waive remaining fees.
On the consent calendar the council approved payroll and claims totaling $133,773.20, and accepted a liquor and cannabis license application for 1776 Bar and Grill. The consent calendar included payroll checks 33398–33399 and EFTs as presented.
Next steps: The reinspection fee will be added to the city's fee schedule and the full fee schedule will be returned to council for formal adoption. The Oregon Trail Days fee arrangement will be implemented as the Chamber proceeds with event permitting.
