Timberland Library regional manager touts school outreach; council urged to add downtown trash cans

Brenda Cameron, the new regional manager for Timberland Library, told the Tenino City Council on Oct. 14 that she has reached out to the Tenino School District and elementary teachers and plans to bring third-graders to the library annually to ensure students have consistent access to library materials.
"I'm Brenda Cameron. I'm the new regional manager for Timberland Library, and I'm excited to be here," Cameron said. She reported a positive response from the elementary school and said a few teachers have already met with library staff. Cameron asked the council for help promoting extended library hours and computer access to increase community use.
Separately, Joyce Worriel, owner of Ironworks Boutique in downtown Tenino, presented a chamber-backed idea for downtown trash cans wrapped with local art and suggested involving high-school students in the project. "If there were a couple of trash cans along the street that people could utilize, then there would be an art project that maybe the high school kids could do," Worriel said. Council members reacted favorably and treated the idea as a 'heads-up' for a future request.
Councilmembers suggested using the Chamber of Commerce meeting and other local events to promote library programs and the public‑art trash-can concept.
