Tenino council forwards comprehensive plan draft to state for 60-day review

Melissa Paulson of SCJ Alliance, the city's contracted planner, summarized changes in the draft: readability and data updates across chapters; a new land capacity analysis; movement of the Downtown Tenino concept plan to an appendix; two additional land‑use strategies; an economic development element to support local businesses; transportation updates including TRPC maps and a more explicit safety/travel‑demand checklist; an ADA accessibility section; and a state‑funded climate element addressing drought, heat, flooding, wildfire risk and infrastructure vulnerabilities. Paulson also noted the addition of searchable figures and updated tables intended to help the city when applying for grants.
Paulson identified two city‑owned parcels that were rezoned from residential to commercial in the draft and noted a new Ag Park/Innovation overlay added to the zoning map. The planning commission recommended the draft for council consideration; council members moved and seconded the submission to Commerce and approved it by voice vote. Staff said TRPC will receive a copy and that agency and public comments will be collected during the review; once Commerce returns the draft, the council will schedule public hearings leading to final adoption.
