School district outlines six-year replacement capital levy for Feb. 10 ballot

"We have a 6 year replacement capital levy on the ballot for February 10," Speaker 3 told the council, adding the levy pays for facility upkeep, equipment replacement and projects not adequately funded by the state. He cited a failing heating, ventilation and air conditioning system at Parkside Elementary, saying the replacement cost is "just over $1,000,000," and noted a partial high-school roof repair this fall cost "just over $200,000."
The speaker said that the levy enables the district to use local contractors, noting recent paving work performed by a local firm, Gemini, and framed the levy as a community benefit that supports student instructional environments. Council members sought and received clarification that the measure is a replacement levy, not a new tax increase.
The district plans a public forum at the district office on Thursday at 6 p.m. and will mail a flyer to registered voters in the coming days. The official ballot date was provided as Feb. 10. The presenter encouraged members of the public to contact him or consult the district website for details.
