The Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School District Committee on Jan. 20 approved routine business and new student activities before adjourning to executive session to confer on collective bargaining.
The committee approved warrant 26-06, presented by the chair, in the amount of $648,526. The warrant was adopted by roll-call vote following a motion to approve. The meeting packet listed the warrant under bills for payment.
Members also voted to approve the district's 2025 annual report as submitted.
On new business the committee voted to establish a student activity line to support an eSports gaming club. Pamela Stewart was identified to answer members’ questions, and Marcel, who spoke in favor of the proposal, said the program has vocational value: “esports is more than just the Xbox.” Marcel described plans to use high-end computers that can be integrated with vocational shops for uniforms, marketing and advertising, and to compete with other schools at state and national levels. After brief discussion the committee approved the activity line by roll-call vote.
The committee approved an out-of-state trip request for the ski club to travel to Ragged Mountain, New Hampshire on Jan. 25, 2026; the request was moved and seconded and passed by roll-call vote.
The committee also designated a list of equipment as surplus after a brief presentation of the list included in the backup materials.
Before leaving open session the committee voted to accept and hold executive-session minutes related to a prior matter until that matter is completed. The chair then announced the body would adjourn to executive session under Chapter 30 Section 21 to discuss strategy for ongoing collective bargaining with the GNBEU unit D and stated members would not return to open session given the sensitivity of the subject.
The committee conducted all formal approvals by roll-call votes. Individual roll-call responses are recorded in the meeting transcript; the meeting packet and backup materials referenced the warrant, the eSports activity request, the ski-club travel itinerary and the surplus-equipment list.
The committee moved into executive session; no further public actions were taken that evening.
