Beaufort County Animal Services urges safe kitten care, promotes adoptions and new Running Partner Program

The program urged residents who find a litter to observe from a distance for several hours to see if the mother returns; if the kittens appear clean, warm and fed, it said, it is usually safest to leave them with their mother until they are weaned (about eight weeks). If the mother does not return or the kittens are cold, dirty, crying or in danger, the broadcast advised intervening, keeping them warm and contacting a local shelter or rescue for guidance before bringing neonatal animals to a shelter.
