Richmond Beach resident tells Shoreline council cars speed '40 and up to 50 mph' on 15th NW; asks for calming measures

Wayne McDonald, speaking during the public comment period at the Jan. 5 Shoreline City Council meeting, described frequent excessive speeding on 15th Northwest between Richmond Beach Road and Innis Arden Park and urged the council to address pedestrian safety.
"We're not talking 30 miles an hour. We're talking 40 and up to 50 miles an hour going down that road," McDonald said, describing the route as a busy pedestrian area with a bus stop, children waiting at bus stops and visibility problems in winter. He said only two 25 mph signs cover the stretch and that one sign is partially obscured by moss; he also said parked cars in one segment force pedestrians into the roadway.
McDonald suggested installing lighted speed signs similar to those on Richmond Beach Road or adding speed bumps. The mayor noted McDonald's time had ended and the clerk asked him to follow up by email so staff could investigate and respond.
The council did not take immediate action at the meeting but received McDonald's report as a request for staff follow-up on traffic‑calming options.
