Shoreline council elects Robertson as mayor, names Povey deputy; approves consent calendar and appoints Amber Clark to Tree Board

The Shoreline City Council elected Council Member Robertson as mayor and Evan Povey as deputy mayor at its Jan. 5 meeting, approved the consent calendar unanimously and appointed Amber Clark to fill a three‑year vacancy on the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Tree Board.
Council Member Pobey nominated Council Member Robertson for mayor; with no additional nominations the council voted "by a vote of 7" to elect Robertson. After that election, Council Member Roberts nominated Laura Moore for deputy mayor and Council Member Scully nominated Evan Povey. The council recorded seven affirmative votes for Povey, who will serve as deputy mayor.
The council approved the consent calendar after a motion to adopt was made and seconded; the clerk called the roll and recorded unanimous "aye" votes. The consent calendar covered routine items the council had reviewed in advance.
On appointments, the council considered a recommendation from a council subcommittee to fill a vacancy on the Tree Board created when a 2025 appointee relocated out of state. Staff said the subcommittee used the spring 2025 applicant pool and recommended Amber Clark; council approved Clark's appointment for a term extended through March 31, 2029. Council Member Roberts moved the appointment, which the council approved by unanimous vote.
The meeting opened with Judge Martinez administering the oath of office to four newly elected council members and included a proclamation designating Jan. 19 as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Shoreline. City Manager Ellington provided a brief report on upcoming community events and meetings.
The council took a short recess after the elections to reset seating and then returned to continue the agenda. The meeting adjourned after members heard a study item on proposed changes to the city's fire protection impact fees and were told final action on that ordinance is scheduled for Jan. 26.
