Planning board continues two Flanders hearings, sets procedural reminders and discusses Gateway district interpretation

The Town of Westborough Planning Board voted to continue two site‑plan public hearings to June 18, giving applicants time to resolve wetlands and peer‑review issues.
For 165 Flanders, staff said the applicant requested a continuation to the June 18 meeting to address wetlands. The board moved, seconded and recorded the continuation; the chair and several members also discussed sending a letter that the next continuation could be the final one if the applicant is not prepared to present in June. The continuation motion passed with a voice vote of 5 to 0.
The public hearing for the site plan at 101–105 Flanders Road was likewise continued to 06/18/2024 at the applicant's request so wetlands can be reflagged and peer review can proceed; staff reported the plan is currently with the peer reviewer and confirmed no substantive comments prevented the continuance. That motion also passed 5 to 0.
Planner Jenny Goodrich reminded the public of outreach events: a downtown meeting on June 5 at 6 p.m. (Great Hall, Forbes Building) with a televised presentation segment, and a stakeholder BWALT meeting scheduled for May 30 for property owners directly affected by the proposed trail. The board also discussed a Gateway district interpretation regarding an addition to a house on Baker Way and expressed consensus that requiring design review for a small residential addition may create an unnecessary hurdle; staff will consider revising the bylaw language.
The board approved minutes from the May 7 meeting and adjourned. The chair thanked Westboro TV for televising the meeting.
