The Westborough Select Board voted unanimously June 11 to approve an amendment to the Section 12 (wine, malt with cordials) liquor license for Harry’s Restaurant, 149 Turnpike Road, allowing a permanent outdoor patio.
Owners’ representatives Janine Sander and Sue Ryan told the board the proposed patio will formalize the COVID-era outdoor dining area and is not intended for full outdoor table service. "Expand the patio, basically. Just make it so we're not gonna serve out there. It's mostly for takeout," Sander said, describing six picnic tables currently in use.
Board members asked whether alcohol has been served outdoors previously and how the area would be delineated. The applicants said the patio seating will be protected by water‑filled barriers rather than concrete Jersey barriers, will be wheelchair accessible, and that takeout orders — including alcohol purchased inside — would be brought out to customers on the patio.
A motion to approve the alteration of premises was moved, seconded and carried on a 5–0 voice vote. Following the vote staff confirmed the applicants will complete the required paperwork; the license amendment will be finalized after the signed materials are returned to the town clerk’s office.
The decision formalizes a summer‑season outdoor dining option while preserving the town’s existing controls on alcohol service and public safety at the site.
