Westborough AFC welcomes new member, hears library director pick and ADA-access questions

The Town of Westborough Advisory Finance Committee met July 8 and introduced a new committee appointee, received a report that the library has selected a new director, and discussed potential ADA-access arrangements for a planned library renovation.

Town Moderator John Arnold opened the introduction, saying, “My pleasure to introduce you to Adam Samala.” The appointee then spoke and identified himself as “Adam Chimara,” describing a background in engineering and later work in finance and an MBA; he told the committee he moved to Westborough in 2018 and has worked in finance roles at Schneider Electric.

The committee’s liaison to the library reported the library has selected Caitlin Caraccio as its new director, noting the appointment is subject to the usual agreements and background checks. The liaison said the library building committee and architects are advancing the design work and flagged an ADA-access question: town staff are exploring whether accessibility could be provided via a side door rather than by modifying the front entrance, and that additional code and egress questions had arisen during review.

Committee members asked staff to continue investigating options; no formal votes or directions to modify designs were taken during the discussion. The exchange underscored that accessibility decisions will be shaped by the building committee’s design work and applicable code requirements rather than by the Advisory Finance Committee alone.

The meeting closed its discussion of library business after the liaison’s update and moved on to other procedural items.
