Select Board awards community center architectural contract to BH+A; approves $45,000 ARPA allocation for OPM

The Town of Westborough Select Board on June 25 unanimously approved awarding the multi-generation community center architectural contract to BH+A (Bergman, Hendry & Archetype Inc.) and authorized the town manager to negotiate and execute the agreement. A working group that reviewed bids and interviewed finalists recommended BH+A for its experience with community, recreation and senior centers and an emphasis on community engagement.
Separately, the board moved to release more than $200,000 in unused ARPA funds previously allocated for youth and family services projects and to allocate $45,000 to fund the owner's project manager (OPM) contract for the community center. Town staff said bringing an OPM on early will support due diligence, procurement, and a tight schedule to hit an October timeline for required steps.
Board members said residents should expect community engagement beginning in July and urged public participation. The municipal building committee will participate in subsequent phases; staff also noted the town received a $19,920 Community Compact fiber grant to connect town hall to the new community center. The motions to award the architect and to allocate ARPA funds were approved by roll call.
