EDC updates: Wayback Burger, Dollar Tree near opening; community center outreach continues

EDC staff reported imminent openings for Wayback Burger and Dollar Tree, announced two ribbon cuttings, and said architects will present community center alternatives to the Select Board ahead of a possible October funding request.
Fred updated the committee Aug. 6 on local business activity and town projects. He said Wayback Burger and Dollar Tree are close to opening and announced two ribbon cuttings: Circles of Joy, 21 East Main St., Suite 1B, on Aug. 21 at 5 p.m., and Family Dental, 57 Main St., on Sept. 4 at 5 p.m.
Committee members described multiple public input and stakeholder meetings for the proposed community center; Fred and other staff participated in department-head and committee-chair stakeholder meetings and a final public input session was held the night before. A member reported architects will present three alternatives to the Select Board around Aug. 20, and the goal remains to seek funding at the October town meeting.
Members also noted a staffing clarification: the Select Board has separated the prior combined community development director and building department roles into two positions; Fred will continue as community development director while the building-department role is separate going forward.
No formal action was taken on these updates; the items were informational.
