Parks staff said lights can be turned on remotely and are normally scheduled for organized field allocation up to about 9:15–11:00 p.m. depending on event size; staff also warned about insurance and liability concerns if non‑insured groups use those lights.
The board considered several motions (trial on a single field, basketball‑court lighting, or broader lighting) and ultimately failed to reach a majority to adopt a trial plan. A separate proposal to fund $35,000 in overtime for sheriff‑directed patrols was discussed, but the board did not adopt overtime funding because no acceptable funding source was identified at the meeting. Commissioners directed staff to return with additional operational options and for the sheriff’s office and parks staff to work on administrative rules for field allocation and enforcement.
Next steps: staff were asked to explore targeted lighting options, field allocation controls, curfew enforcement mechanisms and possible funding sources for directed patrol overtime; no immediate trial was authorized.
