Nye County commissioners directed staff to enter contract negotiations with Prompt Medical Management LLC to provide medical services at the county jails after hearing public comment, vendor presentations and concerns from jail staff.
Public commenters and a corrections veteran raised concerns about the timing and completeness of backup materials and flagged deviations in prior contractor performance. Gabby Cruz of Serenity Mental Health, a prior contractor, disputed claims about disorganized records and said her staff were credentialed and audited. Sheriff Joe McGill told the Board he was not given prior input into negotiated contract terms and urged 24‑hour on‑site nursing coverage where possible, saying that clinical presence reduces liability and improves response to on‑site medical events.
Multiple vendor representatives presented capability statements and credentials. Promoters of the selected vendor emphasized local staffing and experience in the community. After debate, a motion to move forward with negotiating a PSA with Prompt Medical Management at the proposed price point was approved; the Board directed the DA and staff to draft contract terms to return for approval.
What’s next: County staff will negotiate the PSA with Prompt Medical Management and return the full contract for Board approval; the sheriff and county legal staff will work with the vendor to clarify staffing levels, 24/7 coverage options and operational handoff procedures.
