The Nye County Board of Commissioners voted July 15 to accept a $265,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development to revitalize Carver’s Arena.
Stephanie Erga, the county’s grants administrator, said the award follows a multi-stage application process. She described next steps: an environmental review, engineer assessment of the existing well and septic, and budgeting to address any required upgrades. Erga said, "If it's a construction application and there is no environmental assessment that has been completed on that project location within the last five years, the finance department will submit this as a one-year planning application to complete that portion." The $265,000 award covers working restrooms and a concession building; the county’s match is $63,200 in in-kind contributions (volunteer hours and use/transport of a restroom trailer already owned by the county). Grant administrators said the funds are likely sufficient to complete well and septic improvements and hook-ups needed to allow safe potable water on site, but the exact scope will be confirmed by the required engineering work.
Commissioners approved accepting the award, executing the grant agreement and depositing the funding into the county grants fund. Staff said the project is a multiyear effort tied to broader fairground and arena improvements and will proceed with standard HUD environmental and procurement requirements.
