Mayor: PECO gas-main work underway downtown; business owners encouraged to coordinate service-line plans

Mayor Stefan Routes told the MRAC on Aug. 12 that PECO and its contractors recently met with downtown business owners about ongoing gas-main installation and next steps for service-line connections.
Routes said three business owners attended a follow-up meeting and "walked away with some good information," and urged other owners who did not attend to reach out with their plans so the city can coordinate service-line work and avoid additional digging after paving and sidewalk work is completed. "For those of you out there who are listening ... please get in touch with this office so we can make sure it's done as smoothly as possible," he said.
The mayor and receiver discussed the scheduling challenge of connecting service lines for buildings that are currently vacant: stubs may be installed for future use if a building will not re-open within a year. Routes and Kapoor agreed the infrastructure work, if coordinated, can minimize disruption to downtown businesses and support future economic development.
