The Health Commission moved into closed session to consider a recommendation from the San Francisco General Health Credentialing Committee related to standardized procedures for a clinical pharmacist. In open session before the vote, Carrie Dahl (a field representative with SEIU Local 1021) urged the commission to return the member to a progressive-discipline process rather than revoke standardized procedures, arguing the MOU requires progressive steps and that the member previously completed a performance-improvement plan.
Don Surratt, a nurse practitioner at Castro Mission Health Center, delivered a letter of support for the pharmacist and said revocation of the standardized procedures would effectively bar the individual from practicing for the city: "If the standardized procedures are revoked, then my concern is that the pharmacist I'm representing will not be able to work in the city and county." Surratt asked the commission to ensure decisions are supported by incontrovertible evidence before limiting the pharmacist's practice.
The commission voted to enter closed session and, after consideration, approved a motion not to disclose the closed-session discussions. The meeting then adjourned.
