Decatur ZBA re-elects chair, names officers and asks staff to tighten minutes and permit reviews

At its March 10 meeting the City of Decatur Zoning Board of Appeals re-elected Casey Boyce as chair for the coming year, nominated and elected Mr. Panaske as vice chair and appointed Miss Miller as secretary.
Chair Boyce said he wants minutes that capture the substance of board, staff and public discussion (not verbatim), and emphasized grammatical correctness because minutes become official records when approved. Staff responded that they understood the guidance and would make changes going forward.
Separately, staff announced a planned departure by a staff member at month’s end and said they are documenting materials to ease a transition. Board members asked staff to identify the root cause of a permitting review error raised earlier in the meeting and requested that future staff reports include citations to specific UDO (Unified Development Ordinance) provisions so board members can verify standards quickly; one member also asked for larger plan sets and packet delivery to their homes for convenience when reviewing.
