Commission to delay planting around rebuilt storm detention pond; memorial tree planned for Barrett Memorial Park

At the April 8 meeting, Mister Logan told commissioners the city rebuilt a storm detention pond in the Beara (spelled in the transcript as 'Beara') Springs subdivision and is considering planting shrubs and trees to screen the area.

"Last year, we had to rebuild a storm detention pond that was in Beara Springs subdivision," Logan said, adding that the pond predates current stormwater regulations. He said the city arborist visited the site and made recommendations but advised the commission to wait until cooler weather to plant: "I would recommend that we wait till the fall to plant these trees... maybe a planting in November while it's a little cooler." The recommendation was grounded in concern about summer heat causing transplant losses.

Separately, Logan reported the commission received a request for a memorial tree at Barrett Memorial Park. He said one memorial planted last year was for a family member of Shawn Jurgerson; the family paid for the plaque and staff planted the tree. The commission plans to schedule additional memorial plantings in the October–November timeframe and will notify requestors about available tree species and timing.

No formal motion or vote was recorded to authorize immediate planting; commissioners discussed timing and asked that staff notify them if more memorial requests arrive.
