Frisco fire, police reports: flood deployments, new canines and community outreach

Frisco’s public safety chiefs updated council Aug. 19 on recent mutual‑aid deployments, staffing and community outreach.
Fire Chief Lee Glover reported that 16 members of the Frisco Fire Department deployed to Central Texas flood response from July 4 through Aug. 9, working on search and recovery along the Guadalupe River, nearby creeks and Lake Travis. Chief Glover named deployed personnel including Capt. Josh Curtis (Texas Task Force 1), Capt. Allen Wyatt, Lt. Matt Sapp, driver/operator Shane Armstrong and firefighter‑paramedic David Bursong, and said two members returned later to support boat and dive operations. The department will be recognized at a Frisco Roughriders game on Aug. 30, which includes a Hill County flood relief fundraiser and an auction of jerseys; a Muscular Dystrophy Association boot drive will follow on Sept. 12. Registration for Citizens Fire Academy Class 48 opens Sept. 4.
Chief of Police David Shilson outlined recent promotions and swearing‑in events and introduced two new patrol canines — Murray and Tex — noting Murray is named after a cadet who died in 2016. Shilson also addressed a recent stabbing of a teenager in the community, offering sympathy to the family and saying investigators are working the case with extra patrols and HOA coordination to apprehend a suspect.
Council members praised the deployments and the public‑safety teams’ work. Chief Shilson encouraged parents to use the Frisco PD app to identify their schools’ SROs and to reach out directly.
