The Fredericksburg Historic Review Board approved several certificates of appropriateness at its Oct. 14 meeting, covering residential repairs, new houses and backyard projects.
A roof-replacement on 1004 North Landville (application 2025-939) was approved after the applicant and staff confirmed a like-for-like galvalume standing-seam roof; the motion included matching ridge detail and color requirements. Jeffrey Carpenter of Hill Venture Restoration made the motion noting the owner requested galvalume to match the existing surface.
At 112 North Acorn (application 2025-1045) the board approved adding an exterior door and repainting the ancillary cottage but required the proposed six-foot privacy fence be relocated to the corner of the main (medium-rated) structure so it does not impede the primary structure’s view corridor. Staff and the applicant discussed setbacks, and the board asked the applicant to return with a revised fence placement if needed.
The board approved two new-construction applications for adjacent lots on South Lee (308 and 310 South Lee) conditionally: both must comply with R-2 zoning limits on lot coverage and a 28-foot maximum building height; the board asked applicants to adjust garage roof heights where necessary to meet the limit.
A backyard project at 402 East Travis — reconstructing a deteriorated garden shed, adding a small 7-by-12-foot plunge pool and modest landscaping — received approval with staff guidance to reuse salvageable trim and match historic materials where possible.
Next steps: applicants must secure building permits and demonstrate compliance with city zoning and historic-design guidelines at permit review; items involving fences, sidewalks or signage will require separate submittals.
