Board proclaims Human Trafficking Awareness Month, School Crossing Guard Day and Holocaust Remembrance Day

The Prince William Board of County Supervisors adopted three proclamations during the Jan. 20 meeting.
The board recognized January 2026 as Human Trafficking Awareness Month and commended the Greater Prince William County Human Trafficking Task Force for its multidisciplinary efforts coordinating victim identification, crisis response and survivor‑centered services. Jennifer Kuyum Jan of the Office of Community Safety thanked the board and noted a human‑trafficking symposium scheduled for Jan. 29 to mobilize regional partners and services.
The board also proclaimed Feb. 6, 2026 as School Crossing Guard Appreciation Day, noting the county’s 68 professional crossing guards who staff 71 crossings at 47 schools.
Finally, the board proclaimed Jan. 27, 2026 as Holocaust Remembrance Day. Rabbi Shmueli offered remarks recalling survivor Eva Schloss and urged the community to resist fear and antisemitism and to preserve Holocaust memory while emphasizing civic engagement and empathy.
County staff said the human‑trafficking symposium will likely not be recorded because survivors and certain presenters (including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children) generally do not allow recording; staff will send invitations to supervisors’ offices.
