The North Carolina House approved its July 31 journal and took several procedural steps before adjourning to reconvene on Thursday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m.
After the presiding officer recognized members, a representative moved to approve the journal for July 31 as written; the motion was announced by the presiding officer and the House approved the journal by voice vote ('ayes have it').
The clerk announced messages from the governor and later noted that "charter bills will be noted." The clerk then stated that House Bill 96 was removed from today's calendar and referred to the Rules Committee. The clerk announced the remaining bills on today's calendar were withdrawn and placed on the calendar for Sept. 22.
During a moment of personal privilege the House welcomed former Representative Bill Brawley, identified in the chamber as the chairman of the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
Representative Schietzel moved that the House adjourn to reconvene Thursday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m., "subject to the standard stipulation set forth in rule 15.1." Representative Chester was announced as second. The motion carried by voice vote and the presiding officer declared the House adjourned.
