North Carolina House approves journal, recognizes Representative-elect Amanda Cook and adjourns until Nov. 20

The North Carolina House of Representatives convened for a short session that included routine opening actions, approval of the previous journal and several administrative announcements.
Representative Donna White offered the opening prayer, and the chamber recited the Pledge of Allegiance. A motion to approve the journal for Oct. 23 was made and the chamber voted that the ayes have it; the journal was approved as written.
The clerk read business and correspondence for the record, including a resignation letter from Representative Cecil Brockman (see separate article). The presiding officer extended the courtesy of the floor to Representative-elect Amanda Cook of Guilford County (House District 10); the clerk noted the governor had not yet issued a proclamation to seat her, and that Cook will be sworn and seated at a later date.
The presiding officer announced that bills on today’s calendar were withdrawn and placed on the calendar for Monday, December 15. A motion to adjourn and reconvene Thursday, November 20 at 10 a.m., subject to the standard stipulation in rule 15.1, was made and seconded; the motion passed and the House adjourned. The presiding officer also noted that there would be no votes held this week in the House.
