Lawmaker credited with rescuing fire victim; industry groups donate replacement home

During a point of personal privilege on the floor, Representative Jones described how Representative Dean Arp and his wife stopped for a burning house in February and that Arp "did not hesitate to turn around, investigate, and enter the burning home to rescue Miss Esther Jones." Jones said that on May 9 Miss Esther was presented with a brand-new home donated by CAFCO Homes; the North Carolina Manufactured and Modular Home Builders Association purchased a home built by CAVCO and donated it to replace the one she lost.
"I'd like to extend a big thank you to CAFCO Homes for building a beautiful new home for Miss Esther," Representative Jones said, and he also recognized the North Carolina Manufactured and Modular Home Builders Association for stepping up to help the family.
The presiding officer invited those involved in the effort to stand in the gallery for recognition, naming Corin Haley, identified as Miss Esther’s niece, and representatives from the industry groups and builders. Several members offered brief personal remarks of thanks and praise for Representative Arp's action.
