NC House places Utilities Commission nomination on file, approves journal and adjourns to May 6

RALEIGH — The North Carolina House of Representatives met for a short session that opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, approved its journal for May 1, placed a utilities-commission nomination on file and adjourned to reconvene Tuesday, May 6 at 10 a.m.

Representative Penny, the member recognized for the first motion, said the journal for May 1 "has been examined and found to be correct" and moved that it be approved as written; the chair called for voices and the ayes prevailed. The clerk recorded that the journal stands approved.

A letter addressed to Senate leaders Phil Berger and Destin Hall nominating Dr. Donald Vandervaart "to serve as the North Carolina Utilities Commission" was read into the record and placed on file in the clerk's office. The nominating letter provided a contact, Elizabeth Holly, identified as the sender's boards-and-commissions administrator, and included an email and phone number.
