The North Carolina House of Representatives convened for a brief session in which lawmakers offered a prayer, approved the journal for April 3 and then adjourned to reconvene Tuesday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m., the presiding officer announced.
Representative Penny opened the formal business and delivered the invocation, reading material from 1 Corinthians that emphasized unity and mutual respect. "Father, help us as members of the North Carolina House of Representatives to remember that we are all part of this body," Representative Penny concluded in the prayer.
Following the prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance, Representative Penny reported that "the journal for April 3 has been examined and found to be correct" and moved that it "be approved as written." The presiding officer put the matter to a voice vote; "the ayes have it," and the journal was approved as written.
Later in the session, Representative Penny moved that the House "do now adjourn to reconvene Tuesday, April 8 at 11AM subject to the standard stipulation set forth in rule 15.1." The presiding officer again called a voice vote; the ayes were recorded and the House stood adjourned.
No roll-call tallies were taken on the motions recorded in the transcript; both outcomes were decided by voice vote. The next scheduled meeting, as announced on the floor, is Tuesday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m., subject to the House rule cited on the floor.
