Severance board discusses earlier start time and waits on school resource officer petition

Summary
Board discussed moving regular meetings earlier (5:00 or 5:30 p.m.) and agreed to try a change—tentatively 5:30 p.m.—to be finalized in January; on the school resource officer, council member Gulati said any petition will wait until the school district's budget discussions.
At its regular meeting, the Severnance (Severance) Citizen Advisory Board discussed shifting its regular start time earlier and received an update on a separate school resource officer (SRO) conversation.
Town staff reminded the board that at the next meeting members will select a chair and vice chair and reopened discussion about moving the regular meeting start time from 6 p.m. to either 5:00 p.m. or 5:30 p.m. Board members cited scheduling constraints: work hours, childcare responsibilities and court schedules. Several members said 5:30 p.m. would be easier for them, while others preferred 6 p.m. Staff proposed trying 5:30 p.m. and revisiting the decision at a future meeting; the board tentatively set the next meeting for January 7 at 6 p.m. to confirm the timing.
Separately, board member Britney, joining virtually, asked whether last month’s lengthy discussion about a school resource officer had become a formal petition. Staff and other members replied it had not; Council member Gulati said his intention was to wait until the school district’s budgeting cycle and then pursue conversations with the district about funding or contribution.
The board closed by thanking staff and volunteers and adjourning the meeting.
