The Severnance (Severance) Citizen Advisory Board reviewed nominations and announced winners for its annual local awards: Business of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Youth of the Year.
Staff distributed vote sheets and noted three nomination issues for board discussion: Elizabeth Atkins had been listed in the wrong category; Sue Sutton’s nomination appeared without a business name; and a family had been nominated in the citizen category. Board members debated whether to remove or reclassify those entries and agreed to proceed with the voting process.
Board members highlighted nominees’ contributions during the discussion: Raven Wick and Company was praised for its role in the farmers market; Elizabeth Atkins was commended for extensive volunteer work with the Chamber of Commerce; and members described nonprofit activities like furniture recycling to support at-risk youth.
After tallying votes, staff announced the winners: Business of the Year was announced as "Raymond White Handled Company," Citizen of the Year as "Alyssa Batkins," and Youth of the Year as "Mr. Allen" as recorded in the meeting tally. The board arranged for the mayor or mayor pro tem to present the awards at the town’s holiday event.
Board members said they would continue to refine the nomination list and, if ties occur, conduct additional balloting during the meeting.
