Fulshear commission green‑lights concession mural plans and asks legal to revisit art‑use terms

The group revisited an earlier legal requirement that limited artists’ ability to reuse images of their public‑art designs. "We did lose some, really good artists because of that," one participant said, urging staff to remove or soften the restriction so experienced muralists will participate. Staff agreed to bring the language back to the city attorney and to city council for review.
Commissioners emphasized clear timelines and better communication with artists, citing prior delays in the art‑box program. Staff noted there are four completed art boxes whose artwork will be used and that additional wraps will depend on construction schedules and identified funding.
The commission also asked staff to provide exact dimensions and logistics for the concession structure so artists can prepare proposals; a public call or request‑for‑proposals will be considered once agreements and schedule are confirmed.
The meeting closed with staff and commissioners agreeing to keep art‑contract language under review so the program can reopen to a broader pool of artists.
