Commission approves Decatur Square design increase and construction administration contract

The City Commission approved design and construction‑administration scope increases for the Decatur Square transformation project at its Jan. 21 meeting.
Deputy City Manager David Younger said additional design hours were required to finalize restroom siting, utility coordination, relocation of the celebration artwork installation and additional survey work at the Trinity Place intersection. The contract revision increases the Jacobs Engineering design contract by $65,500, bringing the design total to $660,000 within the established project budget.
Younger also recommended awarding a task order to Jacobs for construction‑administration services in the amount of $449,120 and establishing a project budget of $500,000 to cover permitting, bid support, construction‑engineer oversight and related services. The administration scope will include structural and MEP reviews, site visits, special inspections, monthly coordination with MARTA and biweekly meetings with the contractor.
Staff said the project schedule is accelerated and estimated construction‑administration activities will last approximately 16 months. Funding for design and construction administration will come from SPLOST 2 funds.
The commission approved both the contract revision and the task order by voice vote.
