Board approves two well verifications, including one bedrock well outside Ojai City

The Ojai Basin Groundwater Management Agency voted unanimously on Dec. 11 to authorize two well verifications: a 10 acre-feet-per-year extraction well at 1123 Mercer Avenue for Margaret Vanderfin, and a separate 8 acre-feet-per-year bedrock well at 1218 Foothill Drive.
Staff presented Dudek’s analysis for the Mercer Avenue application, reporting the parcel at roughly 10.44 acres with existing citrus and recommending approval as consistent with the agency’s review under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. "Dudek did their analysis of their proposed extraction and the location of the well, 10 acre feet per year from this well," staff said during the presentation.
For 1218 Foothill Drive, staff explained the proposed well would be drilled into bedrock, meaning it did not proceed through the same process that applies to wells within the DWR-defined alluvial basin and would not be subject to the agency’s groundwater sustainability plan fee. The board clarified that the property is outside Ojai City limits and approved the streamlined verification.
Both motions were moved, seconded and approved by roll call with Directors Daddey, Finch and Weaver and the chair recorded as voting yes.
What happens next: Staff will finalize the resolutions and record the verifications; any required permits or state notifications will follow the agency’s normal procedures.
