A public hearing opened on a proposal to remove an existing wireless support structure atop a billboard and install a 115‑foot monopole at 2500 Technology Drive, a representative for the applicant said.
"My name is Taylor, and I'm here representing Selective Solutions on behalf of Robert Bell to build the permissioned cell tower," Taylor said, presenting site plans, a fall‑zone analysis, a survey and FAA (TAU) height clearance materials. Taylor told the board the monopole would include a 5‑foot lightning rod and the compound would be enlarged to accommodate equipment from two additional carriers.
The applicant cited prior approvals: a setback variance and unanimous planning and zoning approval with conditions (landscaping and fabric screening on the fence). Taylor said the project would improve 5G coverage and 911 service and allow future development that the current billboard‑mounted structure could not support.
Board members asked technical questions about the monopole design and safety. Taylor described a designed "pinch point" intended to cause the pole to fail inward into the compound under an extreme weather event, and said such failure is expected to be rare. Taylor also said stacking the monopole on site takes roughly 30 minutes and identified T‑Mobile as the anchor tenant, with room for two additional carriers to colocate.
Town staff materials provided to the board included a site plan, photo simulations, fall‑zone letter, survey, and notes referencing applicable Missouri state statute and the federal Telecommunications Act. With no further public speakers, the board voted to continue the public hearing until the next meeting if a second reading is not approved tonight.
The board did not take a final vote on the permit at this meeting; the hearing will resume with additional procedural steps (possible second reading) at a future session.
