Carla Detwiler was elected acting president of the Dardenne Prairie Board of Aldermen at the board’s May 7 meeting and was confirmed to continue as the city’s representative to the Planning and Zoning commission.
The nomination for Detwiler was introduced during the meeting. A nominating alderman praised Detwiler’s planning-and-zoning experience and research skills, saying she raises informed questions at Planning and Zoning meetings. Detwiler, speaking to the board, said she has lived in Dardenne Prairie for 21 years, served more than eight years on Planning and Zoning, is in her first term as alderman and serves on the Lewis and Clark trustee board; she said she approaches decisions from residents’ perspectives and accepted the nomination.
Another nominee outlined long-term residency and leadership roles in homeowners’ associations and municipal organizations and cited state law describing the acting president’s duties as performing the mayor’s rights and powers during a vacancy or temporary absence. The board conducted a roll-call vote and the chair announced Detwiler as the new acting president. The board then nominated and approved Detwiler to continue as the Planning and Zoning representative.
The actions take effect immediately. The meeting record shows the board discussed whether holding both roles would create a conflict and were advised they were not aware of any incompatibility; the chair also indicated the city attorney could clarify if needed.
