City staff told the board at the May 7 work session that the county has provided a draft police services agreement and that John Young had reviewed it with comments. Staff asked that the board schedule two readings at the May 21 meeting so patrol officers could be available by a June 1 target date.
"In the interest of trying to get officers in place by June 1, I would request that the board do two readings at the May 21 meeting," a staff member said. Board members who spoke in the discussion said the agreement had been discussed previously and supported handling the legislative steps administratively so the city could expand officer availability quickly.
Staff framed the request as an administrative step to finalize an agreement already worked through in prior conversations; no final contract was executed at the work session. The board asked staff to circulate the draft to members as soon as possible and to include the item on the May 21 agenda for the requested readings.
Next steps: staff will distribute the draft agreement to the board, and the item will be scheduled for two readings on May 21 for formal consideration.
