Officials say Dardenne Prairie lacks emergency operations plans; staff to develop response and designate PIO

City officials told the board that Dardenne Prairie does not currently have emergency operations plans for events such as tornadoes or earthquakes and that the city needs to create one. Unidentified Speaker 5 said: “We have no emergency operation plans currently,” and described that during a recent tornado response county officials asked the city to send an emergency operations manager and a public information officer.
Speaker 5 said the city does not formally have a public information officer and that, in practice, staff will need to designate a decision maker and a PIO role for the emergency operations center: “You needed to have somebody who's a decision maker for the city... And he said, oh, no. No. You should delegate that.” The staff speaker said she will wear two hats for the process and that developing an emergency operations plan “will be pretty involved.”
Board members noted outreach to neighboring jurisdictions and consultants to help assemble and refine the plan. The board did not adopt a formal emergency plan at the meeting; staff said they will continue work to develop and coordinate an operations plan and related responsibilities.
