Dardenne Prairie board directs staff to study feasibility of a community center

Speaker 6 (Alder Brunette) reviewed a community survey from about 10 years ago that identified recreation and meeting space as priorities and noted uses ranging from quilting groups to disaster sheltering. Kathy (City Administrator, Speaker 8) said a pool would be too costly for the city’s tax base but recommended a staff-level evaluation of construction and operational costs and, if warranted, a professional study by recreation consultants.
Board members raised practical concerns: Speaker 3 urged a staffing and maintenance cost breakdown and cautioned that many small-city rec centers run at an annual subsidy. The mayor (Speaker 7) asked for and received board support for a staff-prepared basic evaluation; the city will revisit the board with the results and determine whether to commission a professional study.
The direction is limited to preparing fiscal and operational estimates; no design, procurement, or bonding action was authorized.
