Board members and staff discussed several road-maintenance issues tied to recent development and neighborhood conditions.
On Prairie Encore, an alderman asked whether the developer’s releases had been reviewed. Matt, the city engineer, said the right-of-way portion for the roadway is being released but maintenance responsibility remains with the developer until streets are dedicated. He said sediment and erosion control for the sites received about a 50% release and some vegetation still needs to establish around basins.
An alderman raised concerns about private roads within the development, noting poor pavement conditions. Matt said the developer likely will wait until most construction traffic is gone before making full repairs and that escrows for the development did not include the private roads, leaving replacement responsibility with private parties.
Ward 3 Alderman reported multiple resident complaints about Barrett Haven Road, including sightline issues at the Henning intersection and worsening pavement. Staff confirmed immediate pothole repairs are possible (materials permitting), and that the city intends to apply for grant funding in the coming year. The city previously completed a traffic-count study that qualified Barrett Haven as a collector road, which makes it eligible for state funding; the project will move at the usual pace for grant applications and county approvals.
Short-term fixes will be scheduled where necessary, while longer-term reconstruction relies on securing outside funding and completing the grant process.
