The presenter said improved highway access is critical to downtown economic vitality because many drivers pass Dardenne Prairie on the highway and currently have difficulty exiting to patronize local businesses.
Some board members expressed caution about timing and costs. One alderman said this was the first time they had seen the proposal and questioned whether budgeted funds for lobbying and related positions were justified without a broader economic development plan. The city responded that neighboring jurisdictions use lobbyists to work with MoDOT and Jefferson City and that the task force would coordinate regional stakeholders.
The board voted to adopt the resolution creating the task force (resolution number 396). The measure was moved by Alderman Gettemeyer and seconded by Alderman Detweiler; the chair announced the motion passed.
