Mayor Fournier read the proclamation acknowledging more than five decades of legal service, Judge Perush's appointment to the U.S. Immigration Court in Detroit, his military service, his law practice, and decades of civic involvement with organizations including the Royal Oak Optimist Club and the Royal Oak Foundation for Public Education.
Judge Perush accepted the recognition and said he was honored and humbled. He reflected on the importance of fairness and due process and expressed concern about developments at the national level that he said have made maintaining due process more challenging, while praising the continued application of due process by government attorneys and the private bar. He thanked the commission and the community for the recognition.
The proclamation was framed as a community acknowledgment of public service; it did not impose any policy change or financial action.
