Staff and directors described recurring problems — slush in parking bays that prevents customers from parking, snow piled in crosswalks and damage to trees and concrete from bulk rock salt. Staff said the infrastructure committee had discussed options including purchasing bulk earlier to reduce mid‑season price spikes, trialing alternative deicing products (magnesium chloride, beet juice blends), and increasing short‑term cleanup (crosswalk shoveling and meter areas) after events. Staff also showed a prototype rock‑salt dispenser to reduce icing near downspouts.
Directors requested follow‑up contacts with DPS to ensure faster field response and asked staff to pass public comment concerns to the department; staff said they would follow up with the DPS director and deputy when issues occur. The board adopted the resolution to continue development of an improved process and pursue future budgeting steps if a change requires spending.
