Emery council votes to raise town contribution to road-fund pool to 20%

The Emery Town Council voted to increase the town’s annual contribution of Class B and C road funds to the special service district from 15% to 20% during its Dec. 10 meeting.

Council member S5 moved the change, and S4 seconded. After brief discussion of past participation and timing for the chip-seal program, council members conducted a voice vote and responded in the affirmative. Chair S1 announced the motion carried.

The change was framed as a way to pool local Class B and C dollars so the district can use the remaining town allocation for other local projects. S2 noted historical participation patterns and told colleagues that, under the proposed approach, “with the 20 of every town, then we’re gonna be able to use that B and C road money for the stuff we wanna do.”

Council members cited 2023 as the town’s historically scheduled year for chip-seal work and said moving to 20% aims to ensure the town remains eligible and can leverage additional district funds for local projects. No specific dollar total for the town’s obligation was given at the meeting.

The council did not amend any ordinance at the meeting; the vote was a policy-level decision recorded on the agenda.
