Resident urges more patrols, crosswalk after speeding and vandalism near Stonegate

Jennifer, a resident of the Stonegate condominiums, told the Washington Terrace City Council on Oct. 7 that neighbors have noticed increasing speeding, reckless driving and vandalism in the Ridgeline Drive area near 5350.
"I've been speaking to different neighbors. I live down the street in the condominiums, and I've been here 2 years. But we all have noticed an increase in speeding and reckless driving and vandalism," Jennifer said, describing broken fences, a knocked-out mailbox and reports of someone tapping on sliding windows at night.
She asked the council to consider more police presence, a speed-limit sign and a marked crosswalk at the T intersection of Ridgeline Drive and 300 West to help residents and people from nearby rehabilitation centers cross safely.
A police lieutenant responding at the meeting said deputies can patrol through private developments in many cases but noted limits on enforcement in parking lots compared with roadways. "We can certainly patrol through, right? There's just certain things in parking lots that you can't enforce that you could on a roadway," the lieutenant said, and urged residents to call when damage or suspicious activity occurs so officers can respond.
Council members thanked Jennifer and asked her to leave contact information; the lieutenant said he would pass the request to deputies for extra night patrols around Ridgeline Drive. The council did not take a formal vote on traffic engineering or crosswalk installation at the meeting; staff follow-up was requested.
