Mount Pleasant — The Mount Pleasant City Council voted Jan. 13 to approve a 10‑year pioneering agreement allowing a waterline extension for Tim and Lindsey Beasley, with additional language clarifying that outside connections still require city approval and payment of applicable fees.
Speaker 1 moved to approve the agreement "with the addition of clarification on the city fees and city pending city approval to get to the connection," and the motion passed after a second and roll call. Council members emphasized that the agreement does not relieve new users of impact fees when connecting outside city limits.
Speaker 1 noted that the agreement text already states the city is not responsible for tracking who connects onto the line and said that reimbursement or other credit processes require bringing connection documentation to the city. "So just to reiterate, it does call out in this agreement that it's not the city's job to keep track of anybody who connects on," Speaker 1 said, adding the council needed clear language about fees and approvals before signing.
