The council also voted to approve the sale of a 2.2‑acre parcel in the industrial park. Speaker 1 requested a contractual provision allowing the city to repurchase the parcel if required development did not occur within two years; Speaker 3 provided prospective developer details, saying the planned building value was about $500,000 and that operations would begin with roughly 2–3 employees. The motion to approve the sale with the two‑year build clause passed on roll call.
On capital needs, the council approved requisition 012602 to Wildwood Power for Unit 1 in the amount of $145,800 to install updated controls (DEX 250) and a brushless exciter to restore a hydro unit. Speaker 6 described the upgrade as necessary to "bring a lot of it back up to date so we can get this hydro up and going" and told council members staff would provide a more detailed plan when available. Council members voted to authorize the purchase order so work can begin.
The council also amended an earlier purchase order to Milton Industries (PO 305) to cover additional labor and alignment costs related to Unit 4 repairs. The adjusted total was $58,452.18. Speaker 6 explained that labor to remove and reconnect bushings and to perform a cold alignment had not been included in the original requisition and that adding the labor would allow technicians to complete startup and vibration testing. The amendment was approved by roll call.
Separately, council members approved a $3,600 requisition to Container Central for a 20‑foot shipping container to expand power department storage capacity.
What’s next: Several items discussed at the meeting were deferred for follow‑up, including a travel request lacking cost estimates and detailed arena rules. The council moved to convene in closed session late in the agenda to discuss personnel and a potential claim.
