Main Canyon Road reconstruction to begin Aug. 18; CDBG contract still pending

Town staff updated the Wallsburg Town Council on the Main Canyon (Main Creek) Road reconstruction and the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) process on Aug. 7.
Troy Ochsler said the town is still awaiting the federal contract issuance to the state, which must precede the state's contract to Wallsburg, leaving the project technically on hold at the contract level. Ochsler also said the town has begun environmental-clearance work with the state and is progressing so that ground work can start once contracts are executed.
On schedule, Ochsler reported that Pompon Construction held a preconstruction meeting and is scheduled to begin work on Aug. 18. He said the contractor anticipates about 11 days of initial activity and that the town will hold weekly scheduling meetings at 8:30 a.m. at Town Hall beginning the week after work starts. The streets and associated work are expected to be paved and substantially complete by Oct. 31, weather permitting; chip-seal timing could push some finishing work into the following year.
Council members asked practical questions (where reclaimed asphalt millings will be used — "It's being ground into the road," Ochsler said) and were invited to attend weekly construction scheduling meetings. Ochsler encouraged residents with questions to attend the meetings.
Council intends to publish a schedule on the town website and keep residents informed through weekly meetings and project updates.
