City reports: new facilities supervisor, police hires, airport landing and ongoing utility projects

At the start of the staff meeting, Jorge Moreno introduced himself as the city’s new facilities maintenance supervisor, saying he previously worked 10 years for the City of Las Vegas in park trades and will be phased into citywide facilities responsibilities. Staff said custodial teams will be brought under his supervision and a ticketing system will be implemented to log and track facilities issues.

He described a small airplane (a Piper Cub) that made an emergency landing on 1500 West with three occupants and no injuries and said he would share video of the landing. The chief also said the department recently hired several officers — some will attend the academy and others are in backgrounds — and cited recent pay increases and ride-along experiences as factors in successful recruitment. He reported the department’s canine officer Wes Marshall completed narcotics and patrol certification.
Public-works and engineering staff and the water department provided operational updates: Ken (Speaker 16) summarized progress on wells and the Sky Ranch water tank (footings scheduled), and planning staff said the city’s moderate-income housing plan was accepted for 2025 and granted priority consideration for UDOT projects.
No formal personnel actions were taken during the staff meeting; the items were reported for council awareness and operational coordination.
