Eureka council to consider allowing businesses to prepay up to five years of licenses

At a Eureka City Council work meeting, councilors discussed a staff proposal that would let businesses prepay up to five years of city business-license fees, with prepayments being nonrefundable if the business ceases operations.

Shay, who circulated the draft by email, described the plan and said the prepayment would require businesses to remain current on any other certificates they must hold, such as health permits. "They would not get a refund," Shay said when summarizing the proposed policy.
