Utah County to end fire inspection services for Fairfield; council to find alternative

Fairfield received written notice that Utah County will terminate the county's fire inspection services for the town, citing a recent state law change and constrained county resources. The chair read the county letter during the Nov. 12 meeting and told the council that the county commission ordered termination on Nov. 12, 2025, which satisfies the 90‑day notice requirement under the interlocal agreement dated April 24, 2024.
"On 11/12/2025, Utah County Commission ordered the termination of this agreement, and this letter will satisfy the notice requirement," the chair read as staff explained the town has until January to secure a new provider. Town staff (Speaker 1 and Speaker 6) said they will try to contact the county fire marshal to ask for reconsideration and will seek a local fire chief or another provider who can perform required inspections during the transition.
Council members asked whether the town has any immediate exposure; staff said services continue temporarily and that staff will look for options before the termination takes effect. No formal action was taken at the meeting beyond directing staff to pursue replacement options and report back.
